It’s a clear sunny day. You’re driving down the road when suddenly you notice something in the rear view. What you notice is something different, something you can’t quite make out. As it gets closer and closer, you begin to become more uptight and aware that whatever it is, it’s coming fast. As it growls by you, it leaves you wondering what the hell you’ve just seen. This is what I picture going through the mind of someone who may not be up to par with their knowledge of Volkswagens, or any form of modified car for that matter. When they see Aaron’s MK4 Jetta, they have to wonder, “This car looks down right mean” and that’s a good thing.
Aaron has owned the car since 2003. He started to mod it in 2005 and self proclaimed it as a long downward spiral. I tend to think it was money, time, and frustration well spent (like being stranded on the way back from school- Just once though haha). What started out as your typical 03 1.8T Jetta has become hands down one of my favorite MK4′s to date.
At first glance you notice the menacing look that this car has. This is mostly due to its headlights. They stare at you with their all black, almost evil looking pupils which are actually Porsche 996 TT Bi-Xenon HID’s retrofitted into the Jetta’s rectangular housing’s. The custom headlights look great in combination with the boser hood. They maintain the aggressive look flowing in an almost perfect manner.
On the second glance you look and see that beyond its frontal aggression, it sits in a stance that is almost equivalent to an animal ready to pounce on its prey. This is due to the addition of some AIR in the winter of 2009, and we’re not talking Air Force Ones. Aaron was originally using B&G coils but it was time to get low and still maintain its daily driven routine. Aaron went for the bag over coil setup in the front using universal bags and in the rear is now sporting Firestone bags. This combination creates the stance that wraps the fenders over the CCW’s that have a story all their own.
Before the CCW’s the car had Brock B4’s mounted but Aaron explained, “I was on the Brock’s for a while and loved them but the rears didn’t sit the way I wanted”. As we all know in most cases, when something doesn’t sit well enough in our eyes it is almost bound to come off. Aaron sold the Brock’s and called up CCW to place an order for some classics. Upon calling, he ended up on the line with John who is the president of CCW and was swayed toward a set of wheels he had wanted to build for a while. I think it was a sway in the right direction. The wheels were cut by CCW using the Kinesis molds. Attached to them were the LM Series lips and barrels finished in CCW’s anodized titanium. With the help of Aaron’s friend Ryan, he decided on what size Lips would give him the stance he was set out to achieve. The result is the front being 18×8.5 et15 with 2.5″ lips and in the back they are 18×10 et28 with 3.5″ lips. This was the setup Aaron was looking for.
Don’t think this Jetta is strictly looks, it’s got some bite. With its 20v power plant tuned with Revo software, custom 2.5″ unresonated exhaust, and some other additions under the hood, this Jetta has got some go. To me the additions Aaron has made to the car make it one of my favorites. I asked Aaron if there was anything he would change about the car and told me he would much rather it be a VR6 . I am sure a lot of you displacement guru’s would agree.
The car is currently up for sale. Aaron hopes to sell it and begin another project in the form of a MK4 R32. If that doesn’t pan out, he intends to keep it and add a few undisclosed surprises. I hope he keeps it and wins the lottery. This would allow him to have both and would be great because I’m sure the R would look the business as well. If he still has it for this upcoming show season, you can be sure to catch him at all the good ones: Spring show and go, Southern Worthersee, Waterfest, and of course the big and one I’m looking forward to most H2oi in September.
If you do find yourself in the NY area, be sure to keep an eye and ear out for this Jetta. If you see something that looks like it is chasing you, it very well may be Aaron. Don’t be afraid though, it will only leave you wondering what you may have just seen.
Well that’s it, the first official Gengstout interview/write up. I’d like to Thank Aaron for providing us with some killer pictures and a great car to feature. I hope to see this in person at H2oi this year. This was a hell of a start. Thanks
